As promised, this is the follow up article to our post on watchful waiting vs repair of inguinal hernias. Again, this is an absolute must know paper for all general surgeons – the European hernia society guidelines for the treatment of inguinal hernias – with a succinct summary of the treatment options and operative technique. With regards to active treatment mesh is preferred through either a Lichtenstein or endoscopic repair, which ever technique the surgeon is most comfortable performing.
