GSSE Question Bank

The retromandibular vein is formed by the union of the maxillary veins from the pterygoid plexus and the superficial temporal vein. It descends through the substance of the parotid gland and on emerging from its lower border divides into anterior and posterior branches. The anterior branch joins the facial vein which empties into the internal jugular. The posterior branch is joined by the posterior auricular vein to form the external jugular vein.
