The first heart transplant was performed in 1967. How far we have come! Transmedics Organ Care System is a revolutionary piece of technology that is already showing promise in improving donor heart preservation and patient outcomes. Keeping the heart warm and beating during transit significantly reduces ischaemic damage and gives the surgeons over eight hours compared to four with the current cold storage method. Most importantly the OCS has greatly expanded the potential donor heart pool and quality of the donor organ on arrival. Look at that heart come to life!
