Professor Fiona Woods is an Australian Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon world-renowned for her contribution to the field of burns surgery.
As director of the Burns Services of Western Australia and head of the Burns Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Professor Woods played a pivotal role in the treatment of survivors from the Bali bombings, being awarded an Order of Australia for her incredible efforts.
However, her greatest contribution has been her pioneering work in epithelial autografts, developing the technology to rapidly grow cell cultures which can then be aerosol-delivered directly onto the burn wound. Avoiding STSG wounds, minimising scarring, and with such versatile delivery, ‘Spray-on-skin’ is without doubt the future of burns surgery!
