This article by Esposito G et al. provides an excellent critical appraisal of the application of, and indications for, cerebral bypass surgery based on the current available evidence.
Recent RCTs have narrowed the indication for cerebral bypass surgery in the setting of ischaemic cerebrovascular disease when compared to conventional methods. However, it remains a vital technique for managing complex intracranial aneurysms and is the only treatment option for patients suffering from Moyamoya vasculopathy.
