The SYNTAX Trial at 10 Years: Essential Evidence for Cardiothoracic Surgery

This is the 10-year follow up of the multicenter randomised controlled SYNTAX trial.

A must know paper for anyone interested in cardiothoracic surgery!

It is this paper which has substantiated the role of surgery (CABG) over PCI for triple-vessel disease.

At 10 years, no significant difference was observed in mortality between PCI and CABG. However, CABG was shown to provide a significant survival advantage in patients with three vessel disease, but not in patients with left main coronary artery disease.
